Three of My Fave Summer Lips

Hey loves!! Most people that know me know that lipstick is a MUST HAVE accessory for me. Lipstick can take your makeup to another level and jazz up your look for the day and/or night. Today I am sharing three of my go to lips right now and probably for the rest of the summer. 😀

1. Vegas Volt  by Mac (Amplified finish)

I really love Vegas Volt for soft daytime looks. I line this lip with Portside Creamstick Liner by Mac. It helps to give the lip a more defined look and keeps the creamy texture of its Amplified finish in place as the day goes on.

2. Ruby Woo by Mac (Matte finish)
IMG_6790
I use Ruby Woo when I am going for a more “sultry” look.  Its Matte finish is very pigmented and gives you a great pop of color, especially when rocking a neutral look. I typically line this lip with Nightmoth Lip Pencil by Mac. The darker color of the pencil adds a certain “ombre dimension” (at least that’s what I call it lol) to the lip. Give it a try! Also, I know there has been some debate among lipstick lovers about the difference between Ruby Woo and RiRi Woo. To be honest, I own both lipsticks and there is not much of a difference when I put them on. In my opinion, whichever one I pick up first is usually the one that goes on the lips for the evening. 😛 )

3. Heroine by Mac (Matte finish)IMG_6796
And my lovely Heroine!! I just feel really, really, REALLY cool when I go out in this lip. I get tons of compliments when I wear this color. You are sure to stand out amongst the crowd when you rock this lip. I typically line with Nightmoth Lip Pencil by Mac.

My 1st Natural Hair Event: Shop and Style with Cantu

I went to my first natural hair event ever!! Yesterday I had the opportunity to attend the “Shop and Style with Cantu” event at the HEB in Pearland, TX. This was a free event presented by Team Natural (IG: teamnatural_) and hosted by the lovely Mimi Irvin aka Corporate Chic (IG: officialcorporatechic) and Jasmine Winters (IG: JD_winters).

IMG_6853

This was a very relaxed, informal event where Cantu hair products were sampled and showcased as well as on site styling demonstrations. I was able to talk with hosts and pick their brains about their own personal “natural hair journeys” and discuss hair care regimens that work well for them. I was also able to network with other naturlistas and learn about other products in addition to the Cantu line that I should consider giving a try.

I enjoyed my first natural hair event mainly because it was intimate and informal, which allowed me, as a novice, to feel very welcomed. I am excited to try out products from the Cantu line and begin exploring a hair care regimen that works best for me. I will definitely attend more natural hair events (especially the FREE ones!) in the future. 🙂

Who doesn’t love FREE samples? 😛

P.S. Did you know Cantu has a specific “Natural Hair” line of products? Specially formulated for our beautiful kinks and curls. I plan to give those a try too. Also, are you interested in my DIY havana twists pictured? Click here.

PROTECTIVE STYLE ALERT: Havana Twists!

So SUMMER’S HERE (yayyyyyyy!!) and residency is now in full swing!! With work now slowly taking over my life (ugh!), I needed to figure out something to do with my hair. And fast. I needed a hairstyle that was:

  1. Easy to style and manage.
  2. Locked in moisture.
  3. Relatively inexpensive.

Keeping these three things in mind, I found a perfect solution. HAVANA TWISTS!! And I must say that I am absolutely in love with them. 😀

I attempted this lovely protective style for the very first time all by myself. I utilized the “invisible root” method detailed in dozens of YouTube videos. Click HERE to see the actual video I used to replicate this style, by friend and YouTube vlogger Princess Chae. (Be sure to check out other videos on her channel. Her hair and makeup tutorials are awesome!)

I have had this style in for about a month and it took me approximately 9 hours to complete. I would say it took me so long because it was my first time and I had to learn how to train my hands to secure the twists well. I am sure my future attempts at this style will get much faster with time. I also wanted my twists to be very long. Mine go just past my butt and I am 5’8″. (Yea. I know super long, huh!? Lol 😛 )

My havana twists are very easy to style and manage. I am able to style them as I do most braids, but my default style is usually a bun being that I spend most of my time with patients in the hospital.

My havana twists also make it very easy to moisturize my hair. Not only did I moisturize my natural hair very well before installing the twists, I also spray my scalp with a mixture of  water, leave-in conditioner, and coconut oil every night before I go to bed.

I used 7 bags of Femi Collection’s Marley Braid Hair in colors 1 and 1B to achieve this style. I was able to purchase the hair for $4.99/bag from my local BSS. So I only spent about $35+tax on a style that I know is about $150 and up in the salon. I would most defintely classify that as #winning.

So all in all, I am absolutely in love with my new found summer protective style. It met all of my three needs and is super cute! What do you think? Would you give it try?

We hope that you all enjoyed the challenge and learned a lot as well. We also hope that you will continue to adopt habits that will lead to an overall healthier lifestyle. ☺️

**Remember to ease back in to eating solid foods slowly, introducing different foods slowly over the next couple of days as not to upset and turn on your digestive system too quickly.
